Letting Go

Letting Go –  the definition being ‘release’.  A song I heard today by Barbara Streisand “Letting Go” was an inspiration for my blog today!  Just click on the link.

Wow how hard is it to let go of anything?  There are so many things we hang onto such as past limiting beliefs, past relationships, past disagreements, items from a loved one who has passed away just to name a few.  What keeps us holding on these?

Let’s take the ‘Past Relationships’ the very thing that Barbara Streisand is singing about in this song is love.  An old saying comes to mind “If you love it let it go” so much meaning in so little words and what a struggle it is Letting Go!  It’s so hard when you love someone so much coming to terms with the fact that they cannot reciporicate your love.  Some people hang onto the fear of letting themselves love others to prevent themselves from getting hurt again.  They carry this ‘baggage’ with them for years into new relationships and wonder why things are just not working.  How can you be ‘free’ to love someone else when you haven’t given yourself the freedom of letting go of past relationships?

The same can be said for relationships with your family and friends.  Are you harbouring old disagreements and hurts with loved ones or friends that are eating away at you?  Most of the time the person you are holding the resentment for is oblivious to what they may have done or not done, said or not said so the problem lies within.  Let it out, let them know and then Let it Go!  I know easier said than done!  Could you agree to disagree?  Do we have to be right? Let’s face it most of the time no-one is right or wrong it comes down to your beliefs and perspective on the issue that is holding you back from just letting go.  This often happens if the other person doesn’t hold the same values as yourself and it could be time to decide if you really want this person in your life.  Is it better to surround yourself with like-minded people to yourself and live in harmony?

Another thing people find hard to let go is a job that is holding them back from moving forward or is just simply a bad environment for them.  The effects from this can have such a large impact on their personal lives as they take this energy that is bringing them down back to their home, loved ones and friends.  As the saying goes “Happy job – Happy life”.   Life is way too short to be not doing what you want to do.  Ask yourself what fears or insecurities am I holding onto that is holding me back from moving forward and keeping me in a ‘rut’.  Imagine the freedom in just Letting Go!

Even items from loved ones that have passed we can tend to hold onto as many as we can in a desperate effort to hang onto their memory, I am guilty of this myself.  The fact that I am a hoarder didn’t help either.  Slowly, Slowly I am learning the art of letting go of some of the items that people would think I am crazy hanging onto. I am now aware that the memories live on within my heart and will be there forever and I don’t need things to remind me.   In saying this, I will never let go of all of keepsakes as the ones I have kept are beautiful keepsakes to pass down to generations to keep the family heritage going.   For me it also means letting go of the feelings of being selfish for my mum not being in my life anymore.  Knowing that she is around us and is totally happy and ‘free’ herself really helps.

I wish you freedom in Letting Go of any issues you may have with the past or present!  Have an awesome day!  Link below for you
